In last night’s episode of Trading Spaces, Genevieve and John Gidding work on a large basement space and a small spare room. John’s has a hard time with this small space and proves that sometimes smaller isn’t better in the world of interior design. Ben & Courtney are expecting a baby and their guest room set up as a nursery, so they need help setting up another small room as a guest room for relatives coming to stay when the baby comes. Patrick & Allyson are looking to make their basement a family friendly and functional space.
Genevive, Ben, and Courtney are working on the basement space and John, Patrick, and Allyson will be working on the small spare room. Joanie will be on Team Genevieve and Brett is on Team John. It is paint reveal time and Team Genevieve is actually doing a really great wallpaper that she designed herself and Team John is doing light grey on the walls and a darker matte grey on the ceiling.
Team John really wants to know who is over in their house and when they facetime Paige, each team finds out who is designing their house. After that, Genevieve is talking about what to do with the fireplace. They are taking the tiles off and then refinishing the outside of the fireplace. John is visiting Brett to tell him what he needs from him and Genevieve is talking to Joanie about what she needs from her. The plan on Team John is to turn this room into a spare room and a craft space. The craft space is going to be in the closet, meanwhile, Joanie needs to figure out the surround of the fireplace.
Allyson brings John some old wood planks that Ben brought over from his family barn and John wants to use it as a headboard behind the couch in their small space. Genevieve is looking for furniture for the basement space they are working on and Courtney is giving her some major pushback on some of her ideas. Mostly because they are shopping in the rest of the house for something to fill the space.
Paige brings Allyson and Patrick to the Wayfair Pop-Up tent to pick an item to put into their space and they find a small Murphy desk with some storage and it will work perfectly in their space. John has a big project for Allyson and Patrick to put together. It’s pegboard that needs to be painted yellow and then they are going to use yarn to cross-stitch a design into it.
Meanwhile, the new tile is going up around the fireplace while Paige brings Courtney and Ben to the Wayfair tent and they grab a foosball table after Courtney lost a bet. She really wanted a dartboard, but he wanted the foosball table. In order to settle this, they played a game of foosball and Courtney lost. Meanwhile, Genevieve sends Paige and Courtney out chandelier shopping.
It’s homework time, Team John is working on the cross-stitch pattern, but they find out that it’s not going on just one board, it’s going on three. Later, John decides that they are only going to do one panel because it’s going to take way too long for them. Meanwhile, Genevieve is getting her list together for Courtney and Ben’s homework. They have to finish wallpaper, outlet covers, stack stone, and paint the piece of furniture that they stole from one of the other rooms.
When Day 2 arrives, the cross stitch on Team John is done and it looks amazing! On Team Genevieve, they got everything done and now they have to hang the chandelier. Genevieve and Courtney are working on making pillows out of some fabric and an old tarp. After all the small side projects are done, it’s time for the teams to load in all the furniture! Here is what the rooms looked like before and after!

Team John came in at $1836.36 and when Ben and Courtney see it, they are blown away! Ben loves the wood from the barn behind the couch and Courtney loves her crafting corner. The couch is a futon which will allow for relatives to sleep when they visit. They love this room. Team Genevieve came in at $1936.00 and when Patrick and Allyson see it, they absolutely love it. From the birch bark wallpaper, to the storage ottoman that Joanie built and the stone around the fireplace, they are in love with this space.
