Last night on Trading Spaces season 9, we had two guest designers, Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent from Nate and Jeremiah By Design came to design for the day and their carpenters were Joanie Sprague and Brett Tutor.
Derek and Krista have overcome a lot with their toddler fighting and beating cancer. They are trading spaces with their neighbors and friends, Alina and Kevin have renovated their entire house during the four years that they have owned the house, however, they have completely looked over their living room. Both couples are looking to have their living rooms redesigned.
Krista and Derek are working with Jeremiah and Alina and Kevin are working with Nate. Each couple is really excited to work with Nate and Jeremiah and are just as excited when they find out that the other is working in their house. When Alina tells Nate about what Krista and Derek have gone through with their daughter Harper, he is brought to tears, but it really motivated to make their living room the most amazing living room ever.
It is paint reveal day and neither couple is a fan of the bright colors, which we didn’t get any of, however, we got a really dark charcoal grey in Derek and Krista’s house and a really dark blue for the trim in Alina in Kevin’s house. Krista and Derek think that Alina and Kevin are going to love their color combination, but Alina and Kevin are a little nervous that the dark grey is a little too dark. This feature wall is also going to be where they put a brand new built-in unit, so hopefully, that will balance it out.
Paige calls both couples and both designers out to the street and there is a Trading Spaces truck outside. They are told that she has a surprise for them and they are all both nervous and excited at the same time. Inside the truck is Frank Bielec, the patriarch of Trading Spaces designs! He is been with the Trading Spaces team since the beginning and so excited to be there.
Jeremiah’s carpenter is Brett and he goes to talk to him about the fireplace in the room he is working on. He wants Brett to make a floor to ceiling wood mantle for their fireplace and it sounds like it’s going to be amazing! Meanwhile, Frank is talking to Nate and he is really excited about the white built-in over the dark wall. After that, Nate meets with Joanie about building the wall unit for their room.
So, Alina and Kevin have Nate’s curtains in their living room so Jeremiah decides that he is going to repurpose them and use them to reupholster an ottoman. They also make some throw pillows for the couch with them as well. Meanwhile, Alina and Kevin are at the Wayfair Pop-Up Shop to pick out something for Krista and Derek’s room and they go with some great baskets. Nate loves them. It is time for Krista and Derek are now at the Wayfair Pop-Up Shop and found a great blue and white throw that would tie into their color scheme really nicely.
While Nate is outside painting a lampshade, Alina comes out and tells him how happy Krista is going to be so happy about this built-in and tells him that they actually bought base cabinets to make a built-in and never built it. Lucky for them, the cabinets are still in the garage! This is a huge saving.
Later on, Nate and Jeremiah are looking at each other’s houses and critiquing everything on each other. It’s actually pretty funny listening to these two bicker. It is time for homework! Jeremiah tells Krista and Derek to work on cleaning up the trim and popping the glass out of a coffee table and spray painting it. Nate has Alina and Kevin finish the shiplap on the walls and Frank tells them that they should also try and organize and clear out some of the stuff in the middle of the room so they can start bringing furniture back in before time’s up.
Day two starts off with Nate walking in and seeing them completely finished with the shiplap and they even went as far as putting hardware on the cabinets for the built-in which was extra work. Krista and Derek did get some of their homework done, but the fireplace really needs to be finished up. The built-in is being put up and it looks amazing.
Meanwhile, Paige found an old photo of Alina and Kevin’s house from 1912 and would really like to recreate it with Krista and Derek with their kids and Frank, Nate and Brett all sitting on the porch like the people in the photo. They are going to then frame it and put it on the wall in Alina and Kevin’s house. I think it looks amazing. After some finishing touches in both houses, it is reveal time! Are you ready to see the before and after of both these rooms?

They got a kick out of the recreation of the 1912 picture also. Team Nate’s room came in under budget at $1976.57 and it looks amazing!
