On last night’s episode of Trading Spaces, not only did we have the neighbors trade-off, but Ty and Carter are going to be designers in this episode. The carpenters for this episode are going to be Joanie Sprague for Team Carter and Brett Tutor for Team Ty. They are in California where Kevin & Kelly and Leslie & Andrew need some rooms designed! Leslie would like a “babe cave” in her house seeing how Andrew has two man caves. Kevin and Kelly would like to have a multifunctional room family room. They just want it to be neutral, but they don’t have a say in the design.
Leslie and Andrew are going to be designing Kevin and Kelly’s family room with Ty, we will call them Team Ty. Kevin and Kelly will be working on Leslie’s “babe cave” with Carter, we will call them Team Carter. They are all confused about seeing the carpenters in the room as their “designers,” but they are super excited about it too. Team Ty is planning on making this family room a place where the family can get together and work together as a family, in a fun way. Team Carter is going to make Leslie’s “babe cave” a very relaxing space that can maybe double as a guest room when needed, they are going to make this space tranquil.
Team Ty has been showed their colors, the first color is grey, the second is orange and then there is a bright yellow, which Leslie and Andrew know that they are going to hate the bright colors. Meanwhile, Team Carter is doing a pink ombre effect on Leslie’s “babe cave” and Kelly knows she is going to love it. The plan on Team Ty is to use the grey as a based and then do a wall treatment with the other colors.
Team Ty is breaking in his new carpenter with four big jobs and Brett is freaking out a little while Ty is trying to explain all of these tasks to him. This is his first day on the job after all. Ty has gotten a new sofa for the family room and it’s bright colored and Ty is laughing when he sees Leslie and Andrew’s face when he uncovers it. They are going to reupholster it though, so it won’t be that bad.
Team Carter is giving Joanie her projects and she is super excited about it, but still a little nervous about being on Trading Spaces. She is building a trundle bed with a desk on the other side. The trundle bed is going to be made out of old doors so it will be really rustic and fit into a shabby chic style. Kelly and Kevin get to pick out a piece from the Wayfair pop-up shop and they choose an ottoman what is white and light grey. Looks like it will go very well in Leslie’s “babe cave.”
Kelly and Kevin are a little nervous about the ombre effect on the walls. Meanwhile, Brett is at Lowes getting some supplies and when he leaves, he notices a raging wildfire in the distance which has closed down the highway. Brett is able to get back to the house after Ty explained the plan for the bright colors he has picked out. They are going to be using shapes to make some pops of colors on one of the walls. They are a little happier knowing that it’s not going to be solid walls of color.
The wildfire is moving quickly, but still not in a danger zone for the projects they have going on. They are keeping a close eye. Meanwhile, Carter is checking in on Joanie and her trundle bed. Meanwhile, Team Carter is working on the ombre effect on the walls and it is starting to look amazing. Their homework for tonight is to paint the desk for Leslie’s room. Team Ty is working on pillows for the couch and the colored triangles on the walls.
Team Carter finished their homework for the night and Team Ty finished the wall and started working on the pillows for the couch. The fire has changed direction which is a good thing, but they only have four hours before they have to finish and they still have a couch to upholster, drapes to hang and flooring that may or may not be delivered on time because of the fire. Ty is making the curtains for the family room which saves some money.
Team Ty is picking out an item from the Wayfair pop-up shop for the family room and they choose a nice chair for the room. Andrew is sewing the pillows for the room. Team Carter is putting the crown molding up and starting to put the trundle bed together in Leslie’s room. The flooring for Team Ty has come in and Leslie is worried about the bright colored flooring tiles. I think it looks really good and ties into the wall really great. Kelly and Kevin might not think so.
The rooms are done and it’s time to reveal them! Are you ready to see them? Here they are!

Team Carter came in under budget at $1981.07 and Leslie absolutely loved it! She was brought to tears by this room and Andrew really loved it as well. I think he loved it because his wife loved it. Team Ty came in under budget also at $1996.00 and Kelly and Kevin actually like it. Kelly said that she wasn’t sure she would like the bright colors, but she doesn’t hate it and Kevin said it will be an adjustment. They both agreed that their kids are going to love it! Let me know what you think of the designs of the two rooms in the comments below, on Facebook or on Twitter!
I think Ty and Carter are better designers than Hildi and Doug.
