House Hunters Tom and Melissa recently moved from Denver to Atlanta with a long wish list and a lot of differing opinions.
To start off their differences, she wants to spend $600,000 on a house. He wants to keep their budge at $400,000. She makes sure throughout the episode that we know they can afford $600,000. Tom is just frugal.
Wish Lists
His: He would like a plantation style with 4 bedrooms, a flat yard, space for his horses, a basement with a bar and a home office.
Hers: She prefers a Greek Revival-style home with a screened in porch, space to entertain and that ever-so-popular white kitchen.
Let’s see what their poor realtor has lined up for them.
House #1, $589,000
Immediately they say this house is not something they’re drawn to. Melissa doesn’t like much about the it from the start. She does like the great room and the kitchen, though, because OMG it’s white! There’s also a great screened-in porch and a huge yard. But it’s not a very flat yard. There’s no room for the horses, either. I don’t think they’re into this house. I can’t imagine them going for this house. Especially with how picky she seems.
House #2, $615,000
The realtor seemed so over this couple that she enlisted a colleague to show them this house. I do not blame her. But to be fair, it’s probably because this house nothing at all like what they’re looking for and Melissa was very quick to point that out.
I mean it’s a Cape Cod. Why would they even show them this house? I guess it’s in a great neighborhood. When Melissa walks in she says “Oh.” So that says it all. Next. Seriously, they aren’t going to take this house. There’s no space for horses, no screened in porch and basically nothing else on their checklist. And it is over their budget.
House #3, $387,900
Another house that looks nothing like a plantation or a Greek revival. But it is on 3 acres, meaning it has plenty of space for horses. It is close to a busy road, though. But there’s a porch with a lot of southern charm. They like the hardwood floors, the molding and the built-ins. But the kitchen is not the white kitchen Melissa wants. It has a great master suite with an office and a huge spa bathroom. I like this house.
So none of these houses seem to meet many of their needs, so what are they going to choose? I’m guessing they’ll go with the third house and use the money they’re going to be saving on the price to update the kitchen and add some fencing to keep the horses and their son away from the busy road. But since I’m usually wrong, they’ll probably go with the second house that wasn’t even KIND OF close to what they said they were looking for.
Let’s find out their decision.
They decided to go with House #1. I’m done with these two. They make no sense. Can I call in a colleague to finish this recap?
