House Hunters Recap: Going Big In Buffalo

House Hunters hits Buffalo, New York, where Natalie and Jordan only have five months to find the perfect house to populate it with a nice family.

Natalie is looking for a classic colonial with all the upgrades. Jordan wants a split-level with no pool. And within the first minute of the episode, they’re both condescending each other, so it’s going to be one of those mystery episodes where you’re not sure which one will get their way in the end.

The couple has set their budget at $300,ooo. Jordan lets us know that he is coming at it from a what they need place, and she’s coming at it from a she wants everything place. She thinks he needs to be more open to her needs. See what I mean? This one is a mystery.

And now let’s get to my favorite part of every House Hunters episode. The wish lists!

The Wish Lists

Hers: She wants a colonial. She wants it to be move-in ready with upgraded countertops, a bay window, crown molding and hardwood floors. Oh, AND a 2-story foyer. Anything less, makes the whole house feel cramped, she says.

His: Split-level. (Wait, who seeks out a split-level. That’s a house you end up with when you can’t find what you really want. Come on, Jordan!), a family room and carpet. Needless to say, his list is a lot easier than hers.

The Houses

House #1 $280,000: It’s a colonial with great curb appeal. It does lack that open foyer (because people spend so much time in their foyer?). Oh, wait, but it does have the bay window. LIFE IS SO UNFAIR. And even though there’s a nice updated kitchen, the half bath is more like a fourth, and the back yard is basically nonexistent. There’s no way they’re taking this house. Next.

House #2 $250,000: This house is another colonial, but a newer style with a front-load garage (eww). So it lacks curb appeal of the first house. But the foyer is pretty open and the living room has giant ceilings. But since it’s a newer build, it lacks the classic charm. And the kitchen is large but really outdated. There’s a pool, too, and Jordan has no interest in taking care of a pool. Luckily it’s an above-ground pool so that can easily be removed.

This house has “good bones,” as they say, but it needs a lot of work. And even though it has almost all the things they don’t want in a house, their excitement for it lets me know it’s a contender. What’s up next?

House #3 $290,000: Jordan finally gets to see a split-level. The outside is definitely giving us Brady Bunch realness, but the inside is modern and beautiful. But hold on, it’s a little too staged for House Hunters, so I’m already convinced this isn’t the house for them. There’s just no passion to their reaction to this great house either. I’m ready to find out which house they chose and I’m pretty sure it’s House #2.

The Decision

So which house did they choose? House #2. I knew it! It’s not move-in ready, but the price was right and the size of that foyer was just too good to pass up. You can fit a lot of kids in that foyer!

Unfortunately, it’s one of those episodes where we don’t get to see the work they’ve done on the house since the purchase. Womp Womp. I hate those episodes. I always love seeing the upgrades they make with their seemingly endless amount of cash flow.

Do you think they made the right choice (pretend like they were really choosing between these three houses)?
