House Hunters Recap: Upsizing Sooner Than Later

House Hunters Recap: Upsizing Sooner Than Later

House Hunters Kristin and Aaron need a place move-in ready for their family of seven. With a $250,000 budget, finding a place that fits all the needs and demands of a big family won’t be easy. The couple’s main demands include four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

They also really want to find a place with bathroom doors and no “display showers.” Norman, OK finally provides the stability that Kristin and Aaron’s family needs after moving around for the last five years. They also want to make the children a little happier by making their room situation a little more sensical.

Wish Lists

Hers: Kristin wants a single story ranch style home, big windows, and a white kitchen.

His: Aaron wants a two-story tudor style home, with exposed wood.

House #1, $239,000

This home only has one story, but it has a kids’ wing. The hall bathroom is very small. It would be hard for all the children to use it at once. The house also only has two bathrooms, so that presents a major problem.

The kitchen has an open concept with lots of cabinet space, but they aren’t white. The normal master bedroom is also way smaller than the children’s master bedroom.

House #2,  $249,900

A huge brick wall greets them as they enter this home. Aaron finds himself shocked by all the white, including the wood that was painted. Kristin loves the white and brightness. This one story ranch house is more of Kristin’s dream place than Aaron’s, but he finds himself liking it but he doesn’t like all the work it needs.

It doesn’t need a ton of work, but there are a few projects that become harder to complete with their budget and the house’s huge price tag.

House #3, $275,000

This is the only house on their list that actually has three nice size bathrooms (with doors). It’s large and a tudor style like Aaron wants. There is a dramatic entryway followed by lots of cool details, like barn doors in one of the children’s room, and fancy doors in the master bedroom.

The kitchen cabinets are dark again, which Kristin hates. They also don’t like the shape of the backyard. It would be hard for the kids to play back there.

Decision Time: We absolutely loved the third home, and it seemed like Aaron did as well, since he mentioned that they could make the price work. Of the three places, the second home seemed out of the running. It just looked a little jolted with all the white. However, the couple seemed to love the backyard and details. If we had to guess, we thought they’d pick house #1. We were wrong.

The couple ultimately decided on…House #2!

They got the place for $246,900. So they ended up saving about $3,000, which would go toward renovations.
