Woodlands, TX sets the scene for this House Hunters. We meet high school sweethearts Kim and Jason. The couple met in high school when Kim’s family moved from Texas to Connecticut. The couple married and had three sons, Cameron, Zachary, and Rylan. Kim and Jason have now moved back to Texas to be close to her parents, and have been living with them for 14 months.
It’s now time for the couple to make Texas their official home and they’ve chosen the Woodlands area. The most important thing for them is to stay very close to Kim’s parents.
Wish Lists
Hers: She wants a craftsman style home that’s no bigger than 2500 sq ft. She doesn’t want a big home because of all the mess. Kim also wants an open kitchen with a large island, and a backyard pool.
His: Jason wants a 3000 sq ft or more Mediterranean style home that has a media room, office space, and an a dining room. He also wants a move-in ready place that needs little to no work.
The biggest disagreement between Jason and Kim is their budget. Kim’s budget is $300,000 to $350,000, and Jason’s budget is $350,000 to $400,000.
House #1, $423,000
The minute they walk into this home, it’s breathtaking and just gets better from there. There are high ceilings, an open concept big kitchen with a big island. It also has an office, a media room, and a dining room. There is no pool in the backyard but it’s big enough to have plenty of room for play, and to install a pool.
One of the negatives with this place is that it’s a Texas traditional (neither of their chosen styles) with 3300 sq ft. The master suite has it all: large bedroom area, glamed bathroom, and huge closets. It’s also only 15 minutes from Kim’s parents.
House #2, $386,000
This place was even closer to them at a 10 minute separation. It was a little smaller at 2500 sq ft, and it looked less modern than the first home, but not very outdated. It did have a pool that Kim loved but it took up most of the backyard.
The kitchen and master bedroom were also really nice in this one. They would want to repaint all the rooms, and replace the tiles. This one was also a traditional Texas style.
House #3, $369,000
This home was in Kim’s craftsman style. However, it was 30 minutes away from her parents. It was 3383 sq ft. It also had a huge island in the kitchen, high ceilings, and open concept.
The house had two separate floors with the children’s rooms being upstairs and the parent’s room downstairs. There was also a huge game room space.
Decision Time: Kim and Jason had three really good options. All three homes looked high-end and modernish, with a grandiose of Southern glitz. We loved the first home, but with it being so out of budget, we thought there was no way that they buy it.
We expected them to pick home #2, because it was under budget, not too far from her parents, and similar to house #1. We were wrong.
Jason and Kim decided to go with….House #1
As fate would have it they had some incentives that brought the price down from $423,000 to $391,584. Now Kim is working on building her pool in the backyard.
