House Hunters Recap: Looking for a Place with a Pool in Las Vegas

This House Hunters is all about finding a charming home with Vegas flare. Singer/actress Ruby brings her friend Tiffany along to help her look for a new place in Vegas. Ruby originally didn’t want to buy a home because she travels a lot for her career, but after seeing Tiffany’s home, she decided to take the leap.

Tiffany comes along as sort of the voice of reason for Ruby.

Wish Lists

Hers: Ruby wants a mid-century modern home with character, history, and a few fixer upper projects. She wants a place with about three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The reason why Ruby wants so many rooms is to rent out the home to help pay for the mortgage. It must have an open kitchen, gas appliances, a pool, and garage.

Tiffany’s only objection to Ruby’s wish list is that she doesn’t think it should have any renovations. Move-in ready is the way to go. Ruby’s budget is $300,000.

House #1, $269,500

The home has an open concept retro look, especially with the sunken floors and carpet. The place has been newly remodeled but the renovators tried to keep some of the integrity of the original design, so still feels very much like it’s from the 70s or 80s. However, Ruby believes that it is really missing character and history.

The kitchen is big with white cabinets and gold touches to keep the 70s vibe. The master bedroom is big, but the additional bedrooms are too small to really rent out. It’s also missing a pool and garage, but has some extra features like a bath tub and a laundry room.

House #2, $250,000

Unlike House #1, this one needs a lot of work. It does have a pool and open fireplace but the kitchen is small, especially with the low ceiling. Unlike the other home, this one does have the gas oven that Ruby wants.

House #2 also has some issues that might make it hard to rent, like  the bedrooms are very close together and not that large. This place does have a pool but no tub. it also has some surprising extra space that could be used for a dance studio or office.

House #3, $359,000

Kelly, the relator, starts off this house tour by mentioning that this home used to be a hot spot for celebrities in the past. Apparently, Gladys knight used to own it. The house also has a dated vibe but tons of space (five bedrooms and four bathrooms). The entire upstairs leads to a separate apartment area.

The kitchen has been newly remodeled, so it has an electric store, not a gas one. It also has a lot of carpet. The bedrooms are large, and one looks very open with cool design features like an arch and large windows. It also has a garage, pool, and courtyard.

Decision Time: The minute Kelly said Gladys Knight, it seemed like a done deal. However, the place was over Ruby’s budget by quite a bit. So if she went with any other option, we thought it would be House #1, because House #2 just needed too much work.

In the end…she picked House #3.

We’re not surprised about her choice, and despite being over budget, it makes sense. She can rent it out and easily pay off the mortgage in no time, especially if she mentions the Gladys Knight connection and shows the spacious extra apartment.

Ruby and Kelly managed to get the price down a bit. She paid $350,000 instead of $359,000.
