House Hunters Recap: Growing Family in Glendora, CA

Jasmine and Jason met in college. He was the star of a lip-singing video, and from there, their romance started to grow. They have been married for three and a half years. Currently, Jason and Jasmine have an 18 month year old named George, with one on the way. They live in a 500 sq. ft. apartment, which isn’t nearly enough space for their growing family.

They have a $600,000 budget and want to stay near the Glendora, CA area, a city east of Los Angeles. To help their house hunt, they’re bringing Jasmine’s sister and relator, Jessica, along.

Wish Lists

Jason and Jasmine want a home with at least three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It needs hardwood flooring, outdoor space, and a master suite.

Hers: Jasmine prefers Spanish style homes. She also wants a home with white or bold cabinets. Jasmine worries about the safety of a pool, so she doesn’t want one in their new home.

His: Jason is all about the pool life. He prefers colonial style homes. He wants a kitchen island and an open concept home.

House #1, $589,000

This Spanish style home has three bedrooms, and two and a half bathrooms. It doesn’t have a pool, but it does have a kitchen with a white cabinets. The kitchen is small and has some outdated appliances.

This home has a lot of vintage charm, so it’s not open concept. It has nice hardwood flooring and vaulted ceilings. The home is a townhouse so it comes with a $365 a month HOA and access to a communal pool and spa. The home’s master bedroom has access to the balcony, and the master bathroom is very oddly designed. It would need remodeling.

House #2, $579,000

This is a ranch style home, so neither of their preferred styles. It’s located in Covina, a town about ten minutes from Glendora. It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. This home also doesn’t have an open concept. It’s 1800 sq. ft. with a pool and large backyard.

The kitchen has dark cabinets that would need to be changed. The home also has a fireplace, decent size master bedroom, and a huge living room area. The master bathroom is decent size, but doesn’t have a door.

House #3, $599,000

This ranch is located in Glendora. It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It’s 1200 sq. ft. with an open concept and a pool. The home has carpet everywhere and a small guest bathroom. It has dark cabinets and older appliances.

The master bedroom is small with no en suite.

Decision Time: All three homes had some of Jasmine and Jason’s needs but not all of them. House #1 had charm but needed a lot of work. House #2 wasn’t in their desired area, but it was the home most under budget. House #3 was more Jason style than Jasmine’s style, but it had an open concept and plenty of room.

They ended up getting it for $585,000 instead of the $599,000 asking price. Jason and Jasmine already replaced all the carpet, painted some rooms, and added a fence to the pool.
