House Hunters Recap: First Home in San Antonio

House Hunters Recap: First Home in San Antonio-1

Registered nurse Courtnay spent the past nine years in residency, four of those years involved traveling. Now Courtnay wants to settle down in San Antonio, TX. With that dream comes her transition from traveling nurse to one of the House Hunters in Texas.

Courtnay has a $225,000 budget. To stop her from overspending, Courtnay has asked her friend Denver to come along on her house hunting journey.

Wish Lists

Hers: Courtnay wants either a ranch or craftsman style home. She doesn’t want a garage because she thinks that they’re not attractive, and she doesn’t need one. Courtnay wants a big kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a granite island, white cabinets, and for it to be part of an open concept layout. She wants three bedrooms and two bathrooms–to have plenty of room for guests. She also wants a master suite, no carpet, and a pool.

House #1, $165,000

House Hunters Recap: First Home in San Antonio-2

This home is a craftmans style home, with a slight cottage feel. It has three bedrooms but only one bathroom. The place has hardwood flooring and an almost entirely open concept place. The kitchen is closed off and very outdated.

Courtnay would need to invest in renovating the kitchen, including adding appliances. The guest rooms are pretty small and even have creaking old doors. With only one bathroom, the master bathroom lacks that suite quality. One of the major perks of this place is the huge backyard, which has room for a future pool and lots of extra space to entertain guests.

House #2, $182,000

House Hunters Recap: First Home in San Antonio-3

This home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It’s a ranch style home with no garage. The place is also completely open and includes laminate flooring. The kitchen is Courtnay’s dream: it has been newly remodeled with light cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and a granite island.

The major problem with this place is the backyard is smaller, so no room for a pool. It’s also located by a busy street, so she’ll hear traffic all the time. The bedrooms are smaller but a decent size to live in and sleep.

House #3, $225,000

House Hunters Recap: First Home in San Antonio-4

For such a big price tag, this home is disappointing. The major perk of this place is all the space: It has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a garage. However, inside it’s less than appealing. The place needs major renovations, especially in the kitchen and bathroom. It also has carpet everywhere.

Courtney does love that this is the only place with a pool already in it, and it has a nice large backyard. The natural lighting from the large windows is also a plus.

Decision Time: House #1 just felt like it was missing too much. The one bathroom would definitely present a problem when guests stayed over. The third home was just too underwhelming with that heavy price tag.

House Hunters Recap: First Home in San Antonio-5

In the end, Courtney picked…House #2.

She had a little competition with bidding on it, so she ended up paying $195,000 instead of the $182,000 asking price. Overall, Courtnay is happy with her new place and the new life she is creating there, and in San Antonio.
