Last night on Home Town season 2, Ben and Erin help Adam and Lily find a new home with more space for them and their two little girls. Their wish list included things like a big backyard and a studio for Adam to work in. They are both really artsy people, Adam is actually a professional artist. Erin is super excited to get started on this project. Their budget is $200,000.
The first house they take a look at is the Eason House and it’s a three bedroom, two bathroom house with 1800 square feet of living space. It is listed at $110,000. It also sits on seven acres of land, but the house is really plain, but Erin tells them that they can fix that. There is a garage in the back that has a great space for a studio. The inside needs new paint and some new floors. Erin also plans on adding some wainscoting to add some character to the space. The kitchen needs to be updated. The master bedroom and bathroom need some updating and the backyard has a big pool back there too. The renovation for this house is going to run about $83,000, but they have room in their budget.
The second house is in town and it’s the Stringfellow House. This house is a four bedroom, two bathroom house with 2500 square feet. This house is listed at just $115,000. It looks like an old barn with a weird addition on it. The outside needs a lot of work, but Erin’s watercolor really speaks to them. The addition is the perfect for Adam’s art studio because of all the natural light inside it. The yard is really pretty and quite spacious. The renovations in this house will total about $85,000 which will bring it to their budget.
After taking some time to think about it, Adam and Lily decided to go with the Eason House and this is what it looked like before Ben, Erin and their team get into it:

It’s demo day in the Eason house. The demo is going pretty smoothly, until Ben notices that the foundation has been cut into for plumbing. They are going to have to rework the plumbing and add some concrete work to their to-do list. Meanwhile, they are taking the fireplace out, which is just an electric fireplace with a popup mantle surrounding it. It wasn’t attached at all. The island in the kitchen, same thing, they were able to pick it up and carry it out.
There is an old shed in the back and Ben has some ideas for the lumber used to build it. He is going to use some of it in the house and the rest, he is going to build them a chicken coop with. Adam and Lily mentioned wanting chickens when they called Ben and Erin with their decision on which house they wanted.
Adam and Lily had some really cool looking pieces of a door frame from India. They are really chunky with a really neat carving in them and Erin has the idea of making a headboard for their bed with them. Ben tells her that he has some wood from the old shed that they can use as a filler. After the headboard is put together, Ben starts working on transforming an old kids playhouse into a chicken coop.
The new island is in and the counter tops are being installed. The walls and counters are very neutral in the house because Erin plans on decorating it with some really bright colored art and decor. After this, we get a look at a project that Ben is working on to surprise Erin with. He tells us that on Mother’s Day he found out that Erin was pregnant with their first child. He is building a really beautiful crib for their daughter. When he brings her to the shop to show her, she completely blown away by this.
Back at the house, they are putting the nesting boxes in the new chicken coop and doing some repairs to the outside of it too. After that, Ben and his guys put the headboard into the master bedroom and the art starts getting put up. Erin starts putting the decor in because the following day is move it day! The house has come out amazing! Here is what the house looked like when they were finished!
