We are officially on our fourth installment of HGTV’s Flip or Flop series (for now — more are on the way). We’ve got the original, Las Vegas, Atlanta and Fort Worth. While all but Fort Worth are not currently airing new episodes, every version can be seen at various times during the week.
And since the Atlanta duo are off readying for season 2, we thought it would be a good time to get to know them a little better. They are Ken and Anita Corsini, of course, and they are the owners of Red Barn Homes, a professional house-flipping business. The couple attracted the attention of HGTV, had a trial run as hosts and are now a part of the family.
According to HGTV, Ken and Anita met in college thanks to Anita and Ken’s roommate being in the same study group.
“When Anita would call our apartment to talk to my roommate, I was diligent in making sure I picked up the phone first, so I could get a few minutes of ‘phone flirting’ in before passing the phone over to my roommate,” Ken said. “Keep in mind we’re old. This is before college kids had cell phones.”
And before Ken knew it, he had Anita sold on his good looks, sense of humor and charm.
“I kind of knew exactly what I wanted in a guy, but couldn’t always find a complete package,” Anita said. “Enter: Ken. He, of course, is tall, dark and handsome, but he was also very funny, knew how to have a good time and shared my values. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.”
And the rest is history.
Speaking of their history, they weren’t always home flippers. Anita was a teacher and Ken was just starting up a real estate business when they discovered they were expecting their first child. Ken thought that was a good time for Anita to join him in creating a family business.
“So the teach went on and went to summer school, belly and all, passed her real estate exam and still had plenty of time to prepare the nursery for the baby,” Anita said.
Anita and Ken now have three children, who also take part in the family business and can be seen on some episodes of Flip or Flop Atlanta. “My oldest would tell you she plans to go into the family business when she gets older, fingers crossed,” Ken said.
And how does a married couple spend even their working hours together without killing each other?
“You see, we are two opinionated people, who are, ahem, a little bit stubborn,” Anita said. “So yes, there are times we don’t always see eye to eye on things. We work hard to find a compromise that we can both live with.”
Ken says them working together works out because they both have an expertise they focus on and don’t get in the way of each other on the job.
“Within the context of a project, we both typically stay ‘in our lanes’ pretty well,” Ken said. “However, I may on occasion swerve into her lane and add some color commentary on a design decision she’s made. This rarely bodes well for me.”
