On this week’s Flip or Flop Vegas, Aubrey and Bristol had to turn a disaster home into a glamorous sunburst cookie. They travel to Boulder City, NV to look at a home built in 1940, which is currently selling as it is for $95,000. The place is a true mess with huge gaps in the wall from water damage.
The previous owners left a lot of their garbage inside the building, so there are piles of leftover debris and trinkets. Each room just gets worse and worse. To make matters worse, the home is tiny at only about 700 sq ft. However, the backyard seems to leave enough room for expansion.
The place has just gone on the market, so Aubrey suggests that they place a higher bid at $98,000, and they plan to pay in cash to close the deal fast. After a bidding war, they win the property at $106,000. The first step is for Bristol and his crew to remove everything.
They take a day to completely clean out the place, and then they tear down the foundation. Aubrey wants to keep the historic feel of the place so she decides to give it a cottage look. She wants to keep the color scheme light with lots of whites and yellows.
Aubrey and Bristol decide to expand the home, but Bristol lets her know that if they go over 650 sq ft in expansions, they’ll need a new set of permits. They have some design plans drawn up, which results in an expansion of about 540 sq ft. They get approval from the city and start to work.
The first major issue that Bristol encounters is with the plumbing. It needs to be completely replaced. Next, they decide to redo the entire landscape. They remove dead trees and replace them with new trees, plants, and fake grass. They also repaint the garage, the outside of the home, and the door. They keep the original bricks and door, but strip them and add new coats of paint.
The final design is very yellow, like too yellow. Aubrey also goes a little too far with all the patterns on the wall, back splash, and tiles in the bathroom. The hardwood floor was a nice addition but kind of feels out of place with the overly modern look.
Aubrey made it a priority to mention wanting to keep the original integrity of the place, but then the design felt too contemporary. It lost a lot of the historical charm. Aubrey and Bristol, and the realtors kept saying it had “charm,” but it didn’t feel that way to us.
It felt like a standard modern home. In fact, some of the tricks Aubrey used for it were the design techniques she always uses. It took Bristol and his crew over 65 days to complete the project, and they did an amazing job saving and expanding a very damaged home.
However, we felt a little disappointed in the results. The place had a lot of potential to have this wow factor with integrating more of the historical elements and paying a little bit of homage to the time period of its construction, but we saw none of that in the final product.

But everyone else seems to love the place. It cost Aubrey and Bristol $78,000 in renovations, which led to a total investment of $184,000. They decide to list the place at $425,000, and after only a couple hours on the market it sold at asking price. This gave Aubrey and Bristol a profit of $224,000.
On to the next renovation project.
