Flip or Flop Ft. Worth Season 1 Episode 5 Recap: Welcome To The Jungle

Flip or Flop Ft. Worth stars Ashley and Andy find a house in a great location with a lot of potential. There’s only one problem: It’s, in Ashley’s words, “a house of horrors.”

It’s a 1950s house that has never had a single update. It’s smelly, rotting and the yards are so overgrown they’re likened to a jungle.

During the walk-through, Andy estimates they’re going to have to drop $20,000 on the outside alone. Ashley seems a little skeptical but they head inside to see the rest. And it only gets worse from there. There’s water damage on the floors, there’s dirt everywhere, the flow is all wrong. Every where they turn there is something else that needs done. The dollars are fasting adding up. The kitchen alone is another $20,000, but that includes a brand new butler’s pantry.

The bathrooms are the usual gut jobs. Both are going to cost them over $10,000. After the finish off the tour with the master bedroom, they head outside before Ashley throws up. As they navigate the jungle that is the yard, they decide that the house is not worth the $200,000 asking price, so they go in at $185,000. The seller accepts and they get to work – after Andy takes a bath in bleach.

As soon as the demolition starts, the dollar signs continue adding up. They find out they’re going to have to buy some new windows and a support beam under the house to keep it from bouncing when you walk through it.

The work is done and it’s time to check it out. The outside went from dingy house nestled in a jungle to probably the cutest house on the block. And the inside is even better. The whole house was a dirty, gross mess and they transformed it into one of the nicest houses they’ve flipped this season. It’s definitely the most elegant.

The living room and dining room are open and airy and it flows right into the kitchen, which shows off the great new butler’s pantry. The bedrooms and bathrooms are now functional and classy. Once again Ashley picked all the right finishes to make the house as perfect as it can be.

They did end up spending more on the renovation than they intended, but they’re confident they can still land a pretty nice profit with this house. They bought the house for $185,000 and they put $91,000 into it, that’s $276,000 total. They decide to list the  house at $375,000.

After a really busy and successful open house, they accepted an offer on the house for $365,000. That means that massive transformation made them a $71,000 profit. That’s pretty incredible.
