Last night we watched the season 5 premiere of Fixer Upper, which is also going to be the final season. In this episode, Chip and Joanna help Samantha and Matt find their first home together. They are looking for something with a home office because they both work from home and their budget is $200,000.
The first home that Chip brings them to see is a two bedroom, one bath and it’s just over 1200 square feet. It is listed at $70,000. It doesn’t need a ton of work, but it is a little small and Chip and Joanna would have to add on a master bath and closet for their room. The second home they go to look at is actually a listing that Matt and Sam found themselves. It’s listed for $30,000 and it is the definition of Fixer Upper. There is no plumbing or electrical and they decide that this might be too big of a project for their first home.
The third house that Chip and Joanna bring them to see is a three bedroom, one bath and it’s 1400 square feet. It is listed at $110,000, but doesn’t need a ton of work. The biggest thing about this house is it doesn’t have an office in it already. There is a bedroom right off the main living room that they could rework into an office and add a hallway in to make access to the back of the house easier. After they look at the house and think about it, Matt and Sam decide that this house is the house they want. Here is what the house looked like before!

The project goes on without a problem, they even managed to find the original blueprints of the house and Joanna has the idea of framing them and hanging them inside the house. The outside of the house is going to be power washed and then the trim is going to be a little darker. The living room is just going to be painted and the mantle is going to be redone. Matt’s grandfather is a craftsman and Joanna talks Chip into doing an eight hour road trip to Kansas City to meet with the grandfather and have him make end tables for Matt and Sam’s new home. Chip takes the boys on this road trip with him.
While Chip and the boys are gone, the team continues to get the house finished. Chip and the boys get to the grandparents house and he shows Chip and the boys around his workshop and he tells Matt’s grandfather that they were thinking about having him make some end tables for their living room. The grandfather is going to work on those and get them done and when he comes to visit Sam and Matt he is going to bring them with him.
After Pop Hardy drops off the tables, Joanna finishes with the decor in the house and it’s time for Matt and Sam to see their Fixer Upper! Are you ready to see it? Here it is!
