In this episode of Fixer Upper: Behind the Design season 1, Joanna converted a bland looking loft into a modern dream home for a friend of the family. If you missed the original episode of Fixer Upper, you can find out full recap right here! Katherine really wanted a bigger master bedroom with a huge closet which we will get to see in this episode but didn’t see in the original episode. She has a big shoe and hat collection that she would like to have shelving for. She tells Joanna that she would love to have the ceiling opened up and some of the industrial things showing. She really would like to have an office and guestroom. This room is going to have a floating bed with a reading nook underneath and desk.
Dustin built a see-through wall for the office made of steel and glass. Joanna gets her friend Marvin to do the bathroom cabinets and the closet in her room as well. They also had a gorgeous fireplace installed in the entryway. Jo had the idea of doing a wood accent wall, but with the exposed ductwork they would have to cap it at the top so it doesn’t look unfinished. They also decided to do a black fireplace pipe which will tie into the handmade black tiles in the kitchen.
This project comes along really nicely with no issues. It’s got a very clean look to it with a lot of black and white accents everywhere. I also love the stainless steel island that they put into this apartment. This loft also had a lot of “smart” technology in it. She will be able to control the thermostat, lights, tv and blinds all from her phone. The black tile in the kitchen is broken up by white grout and looks awesome. The master bedroom has a really cool wood slated wall behind the bed with some floating bedside tables.
Jo has a key to Katherine’s current apartment which is inside the same complex and is able to get some of her shoes and hats to really stage out the closet. There is no canvas, no landscape so they enlarged a photo of the view from the entryway. Here are some of the design elements highlighted in this episode of Fixer Upper: Behind the Design!
