HGTV’s Love It Or List It realtor David Visentin’s job is to convince people to move out of their current house and into something newer and better. He doesn’t always succeed since his co-host Hilary Farr is working against him to get their subjects to stay where they are after some upgrades.
David recently did an interview with the Los Angeles Times where he explained a lot of his thought process and how he feels about the show.
For starters, he says one of his main challenges is convincing people that you won’t forget the house and all its memories if you list it.
“It’s not like you’re going to move to a new house and you’re going to forget all those great memories,” David told the Los Angeles Times. “As a kid, I think we moved every 5½ years. I loved every one of those houses. The future is unknown, and that can be exciting.”
David said that he and Hilary are both faced with a lot when working with the homeowners in every episode.
“We are kind of like therapists,” he told the Times. “Usually you have two people that don’t really agree, and they have to come together as a couple and make a decision. People get very invested in their homes, and not just in what works but mostly what doesn’t work.
Many homeowners want to stay in or near their neighborhood. How often can you deliver on that?
One of the most interesting things revealed in the interview was that not everyone who decides to “love it” stands by their decision for long.
“I’ve actually bumped into some people who loved it and then listed it a year and a half later,” David explained.
Love It Or List It Can be found on HGTV during various times of the week. The next season is upcoming, but when new episodes will air has not yet been announced.
